The
Cruise People, Ltd.
suggests you consider arriving one day in advance
before cruising. This allows you to begin your holiday
more rested and relaxed. It also allows you time
to tour the port of sailing. This will be an extra
expense to you, but the cruise lines offer affordable
pre-cruise packages. Some of the luxury cruise lines
even include a pre-cruise accommodation package
in the cruise fare.
Be
aware that airlines enforce carry-on baggage regulations.
Check with your air carrier to see exactly what
they are.
When
checking luggage, make sure that the city shown
on the tag placed on your bag at airport check in
matches your destination. Remove all old
tags.
Do
not put your home address on your baggage tags.
Your home address will provide a person with ill-intent
all the information they could possibly want to
break into your home. If you are going on a holiday,
that person would also know that you will likely
be away for a week. You are welcome to use our office
address. If your bags should go missing, we know
where you will be, and we also can contact you on
your trip to keep you informed.
An
extra folded flight bag takes very little room,
and it can be handy on your way home when you have
more to carry than can be placed in your luggage.
Lock
your luggage if allowed to avoid accidental openings
due to rough handling or cabin pressure and carry
the keys on your person.
A
growing number of airports use new high-powered
x-ray equipment for luggage stored in airplane cargo
holds. These units could damage film and computer
diskettes. We recommend you transport film
and diskettes in pockets or carry-on bags, which
receive lower doses of x-rays.
Packing
Tips:
If
two people are travelling together, each should
carry a different credit card. If one is lost,
you'll still have a valid one. Also, if the
magnetic stripe malfunctions, you still have the
other one to use.
Pack
as set of clothes appropriate to the climate of
your cruise departure. This way, you don't need
to wait for your bags to arrive at your cabin. You
may also want to include your bathing suit, that
way you can dive right into your holiday!
Wear
or carry your bulky clothes on the flight if possible,
rather than packing them, to create extra space
in your bag.
Pack
heaviest items such as shoes, travel alarm, hairdryer,
steamer and iron on the bottom of the suitcase where
the hinges are. They will stay in place, while
their weight will prevent clothing from shifting.
Use
luggage space wisely. Stuff hosiery into the toes
of your shoes. To protect your shoes, wrap them
in t-shirts if you don't have shoe bags. Roll sweatshirts
and undergarments to fill space. A full bag
prevents the contents from sliding and wrinkling.
Don't
roll belts; place them just inside the walls of
your bags, running around the circumference.
They take less room this way.
Co-ordinate
your wardrobe around one or two basic colours. This
will automatically eliminate many items of clothing.
Separates are best because they can be mixed or
matched.
Pack
an outfit that doubles as exercise wear. Many travellers
discover great programmes designed for all fitness
levels.
Don't
pack too much. An old traveller's trick is to lay
out everything you think you'll need, then consider
packing half and returning the rest to your closet.
Minimize
wrinkling by packing shirts buttoned. If possible,
fold clothes at the waist and seam only.
Place
plastic bags over clothes to minimize wrinkling.
Keep each layer as flat and even as possible.
For
silk shirts use large reclosable plastic food bags.
This helps keep the shirts wrinkle free. Bring extra
bags for packing wet bathing suits.
Pack
some of your travelling companion's clothes in your
bag and vice versa. In case one piece of luggage
gets delayed, one person won't be left with absolutely
nothing.
Make
a list of the contents and carry it with you. You
will need this to make a claim if your luggage is
mislaid or stolen.
Be
sure your baggage is clearly
labelled inside and out. Remove old airline tags.
Place your name and telephone number in a
prominent place on the outside and inside of each
luggage piece.
Carry
fragile or perishable items (including all medications)
with you. Include at least a toothbrush in your
carry-on bag.
Always
carry valuables on your person, not in a purse,
not in a flight bag. The only other place
is a safe deposit box at a hotel or on a ship.
Valuables include passport, return tickets, traveller's
cheques, money, credit cards and essential medication.
It is not a good idea to take valuable jewelry on
a holiday due to customs considerations..
Pack
laundry soap for delicate articles. Dry cleaning
is seldom available on ships. Cabin staff
will arrange laundry service on all but the shortest
cruises.
Pack
sample sizes of toiletry articles. Liquids travel
best in plastic containers. Squeeze the air out
of bottles before you fill them up and don't fill
them to the top. Place the containers in plastic
bags before you put them in your suitcase.
Unpack
as soon as possible after you arrive on your ship
or at your hotel. This helps eliminate wrinkling...
Pack
and repack articles
in the same order each time. During short stays,
you'll be able to reach into your bags and find
what you want without unpacking completely.
Remember, on a cruise you
unpack and pack only once.
Be
prepared for unusual weather. A July cold spell
or a winter heat wave can happen. Layering your
clothing is a good way to be prepared because layers
can be added or removed.
Honeymoon Planning
Tips:
Perfect
honeymoons don't just happen. They have to
be carefully planned. The more you do your
honeymoon preparations, the more romantic - and
the more fun - your honeymoon will be. The
Cruise People, Ltd. can expertly assist
you to fulfill your honeymoon dreams.
Create
a budget and work within the limits. Book the best
room or cabin category that your budget will allow:
(e.g. oceanview, ocean front or garden view;
inside cabin, outside cabin, balcony cabin or suite).
Look for all-inclusive resorts or cruises if money
must be controlled. With all-inclusive resorts and
cruises you will know your total costs up front,
and you will not get any surprises when you are
ready to leave.
Make
sure your Cruise People, Ltd. agent
knows that you are planning your honeymoon because
cruise lines and hotels often have extras such as
champagne that will make the honeymoon special and
will be at minimal or no additional cost to you.
To-day, you can even have the wedding ceremony performed
on board a cruise ship. Ask us for more details.
Remember,
everybody loves a lover. Tell everyone along
the way - airline and cruise ship's personnel, hotel
front desks - that you're on your honeymoon.
Keep on telling them as your holiday progresses.
You'll be surprised at the number of smiles and
perks that this can bring you.
Be
as specific as you can when booking your trip.
Outline your needs and interests to our agent.
Specify the bed size you want. Ask for the
airline seats, cruise-ship cabin and/or type of
hotel room you wish. Learn how you will be
getting to your hotel from the airline or cruise
terminal. Specify the time of day you would
like to leave.
Find
out what travel documentation you will need such
as passports, certified copy of your birth certificate,
or marriage licence.
Check
with your Cruise People, Ltd. agent
to determine health requirements for travelling
to certain areas of the world such as Africa, Asia,
or India.
If
you plan to rent a car, find out about your insurance
requirements. Check to see if your personal car
insurance or credit card will cover you by a collision-damage
waiver. Be aware that certain car rental companies
charge a higher rate or surcharge for drivers under
the age of 25.
Purchase
trip-cancellation insurance in case you have
to cancel. Certain restrictions apply to this type
of insurance and your Cruise People, Ltd.
agent can take care of this for you.
If
you are not leaving for your cruise or destination
immediately after the wedding, you may want to spend
your wedding night in a quiet romantic inn or resort
hotel. Book this reservation at the same time you
book the rest of your honeymoon cruise. Some
luxury cruise lines include pre-cruise hotel accommodation
in the cruise fare.
Book
a cruise early. To-day, ships are sailing
at full capacity. This ensures you get your
choice of cabins and sailing dates. Most
cruise lines have early-booking incentives; you'll
save more by booking ahead. And finally,
booking in advance gives you sufficient time to
properly plan your cruise and get the most from
it. For additional information on cruising,

information

Airport
Security Guidelines:
Arrive
at the airport up to three hours before departure.
Carry valid identification at all times. A second
photo identification may be required at some airports.
Reconfirm,
if possible, your flight directly with the
airline 24 to 48 hours prior to departure.
Be
aware that there may be special parking and unloading
restrictions. Some airports may have eliminated
curbside check-in.
Take
only those items truly necessary for the trip. Once
at the airport, be prepared to have your belongings
searched by security personnel. Laptop computers
and other electronic devices might require additional
time to clear security.
Again,
always be certain that all your luggage, both checked
and carry-on, is tagged with your passenger name.
Identification should be placed on both the outside
and inside of each piece of luggage.
When
waiting in line or sitting in the airport (or anywhere
else, for that matter), always have the strap to
your carry-on luggage wrapped around an arm or leg.
Then it won't disappear without your knowledge.
Even straddle your large bags or have them touching
your leg so you will know if they are moved.
Never
leave luggage unattended or under the watch of a
stranger.
Do
not accept any item from a stranger or carry any
package with unknown contents.
Upon
arrival at your destination, go immediately to the
baggage-claim area to pick up your luggage. Have
the claim stubs available. If you're
cruising, the cruise lines will generally do this
for you.
People
are always asking questions about cruising, everything
from weather concerns, dress codes, sea sickness,
medical facilities and on-board amenities, to
queries about travel documents, dining and diets,
entertainment and so much more. We are happy to
answer your questions by phone, or in person.
